Today: Love, Death & Robots: Snow in the Desert
Hi everybody, what happens when you put some aliens out of the "Star Wars" universe, a few aspects of "Terminator" and the idea of "Highlander" into a world reminiscent of Arrakis in "Dune"? "The Mandalorian" only in mad (max)!
Imagine you could live forever, but never love forever, because the people you love will always die right in front of your eyes... they're just mortals. Due to a special and much sought-after mutation, you are damned to stay alone and defend yourself against everyone who comes and wants your genes. And it's easy to imagine what that looks like, if you've…
This was another high of the series.
The animation was once again some of the best of the series and it simply looked fantastic and realistic.
The story was also interesting and I can see great potential in making a movie out of it to flesh out the characters and the world more.
It was bloody and violent with some fun ideas and cool character designs.
It was maybe not so much about robots, but as long as it’s still futuristic I don’t really mind that much.
Everyone is looking for Snow,
To see what his body might know.
When he's alarmed,
He might be dis-armed,
But knows when it's time to go.
I can't say I expected an animated short where bounty hunters are after the protagonist's balls because it secretes some immortality juice to better.
One of the best inputs from the series pulled back by a little flaw, Love, Death & Robots: Snow In The Desert is visually amazing. A superb photo-realistic animation rivaling today's leading animation studios. The pacing, storytelling and twists are refined too. But just like everyone here, the "balls having the secret to immortality" plot is ridiculously stupid. I first thought it was a joke.
Staffel 2/Folge 4
Ahhhh, so that's why this season only has half the number of episodes that the first season had. They completely blew their budget on this short. This is one of the most photo-realistic animations I have ever seen. And whilst there's uncanny valley at points (mainly due to the lips) this is still an incredible visual achievement.
As for the story it's a blend of several different stories. There's elements of "Terminator," "Dune," "Mad Max," "Borderlands" etc. It really doesn't matter, this short captured my imagination from the first second. The rich world building, the fusion between futuristic tech that looks grimy and old gave this a cool "Star wars" feel. The planet looked like a cross between "Tatooine," "Arrakis" and the prison planet from the "Chronicles of Riddick." And I really can't ask for much more than that...
This was just fifteen minutes of pure unadulterated, fun, Sci-Fi pulp. I WANT MORRRRRRRREEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!
