The map IS the territory.
Eighteenth-century post-modernism, like Manuscript Found At Saragossa; this **THING OF GREAT DELIGHT** rotates around the Hypnerotomachia Poliphili, using bits of that... and bits of the Parsifal legend... and probably dozens of things I didn't recognize... as occasion for a playful romp through the whole (Western) hermetic tradition*. It's occasionally very funny, and it's consistently mind-blowing, though it might possibly have been just a half-hour or so too long.
I can't imagine any movie that I would like more at this time... but that'll change.
*Mere pastiche, or... a real exposition of The Mysteries? I can't say for sure, but given how fast and prolific Ruiz was, I suspect the former. Doesn't make it any less engaging, though...
