Lise & jonnie Around the World 2016
I love surfing the Czech New Wave, and so this stop was highly anticipated. It’s with a bit of sadness, though, that this only leaves a single Czech period Milos Forman remaining for us to see. While he isn’t my favourite from that movement … that tile would go to Jiří Menzel, from watching Fireman’s Ball, he has an observational quality that’s unique, and is a master of the genre.
Where The Fireman’s Ball was almost completely acerbic, here Forman cuts the vinegarish humor with doses of melancholy, and once in awhile even a touch of tenderness.
I don’t know if Forman has a particular pension for ballrooms, but…
