For many years, I taught a high school film class. One term was dedicated to editing. Every year, there were a handful of students who became obsessed with the shitty filters and effects. They'd throw them on every shot and edit things in outrageous, frantic ways. Eventually after weeks of experimentation, they would generally move towards something more watchable and thoughtful. It was a natural progression. Mai-Chan’s Daily Life: The Movie reminded me a lot of those students. Only in this case, no one did a second draft on the edit.
On an aesthetic level, I hated this film so much. It is shot completely artlessly (though it seems to think it's artful as fuck). It constantly flicks to black…
Sad to read all the negative reviews… do y’all not understand how romantic it would be to be violently mutilated and cannibalized by your catgirl maid lover while she confesses her love to you?! Smh. Also the editing and digital zooms rule, ESPECIALLY the zooms on the masters face as he watches Mai-Chan be brutalized and looks on with the utmost attentiveness. Short n to the point just how I love my gore flicks to be.
My dream relationship involves me being tied to a bed and dismembered with a chainsaw while someone tells me I'm cute, so maybe this is a little too much fantasy fulfilment..
No escape; death already reaches the lair of despair and this is a new chapter. Claim the soul, body and start curse all fucking body with love.
ight imma head out, i need fresh air, ngl this filmé totally fucking wow
I've been meaning to see this for quite some time, and now that I finally did, I must say it was not really what I was hoping for. I was mostly taken aback by how incredibly cheap it all felt. But more on that in a sec.
It's a live-action adaptation of a manga that I'm not familiar with, but here we get the story of Mai Chan, a maid who can't die and the people around her abusing this "miracle".
But aargh it looks and feels soo cheap. Obviously this was made on a very low budget, which is fine, it's just... the whole movie had such an artificial feel to it which completely took me out of the…
amateurish in a very jean rollin-ish way, wherein its ostensible technical faults only serve to make its tactility more accessible+empathetic and its visceral iconographic aesthetic virtuosity more satisfying. the future of Hot Girl Genre Cinema is totally in shit like this, just totally passionate diy exploitation tht circumvents, like all exploitation, the gentrification and didacticism of most feminist cinema by virtue of its own “”problematic”” nature. the mutilation of the feminine form isn’t convenient narrative-driven violence; it’s at once fetishistically organized and utterly chaotic, without sense or intent or meaning. where most genre movies of this ilk find respite in sex between women and consent therein as a point of contrast to the violence of hererosexuality’s asymmetry, this movie finds…

Something feels so wrong! My lips are sore, cut, and torn. Kiss me again with a complete set of teeth, and let me fall into your smile; I don't care at all.

I think of it as an expression of love! To test the mettle of mere mortals!
(more like I will never trust you and love pushing you away)
Never the one you…
im a stupid bitch with a guro fetish and some scenes from the original manga appealed to my taste somewhat (admittedly it goes a little too far sometimes hgfdh) but because i can only handle gore porn without getting squeamish when its drawn, i came in expecting a more tasteful approach to this movie because my brain dumb. i think there's so many great ideas in the source material that could be interpreted into a decent psychological splatter horror, but here the director chose to approach the manga with a lewd and fetishy lens which makes the whole film feel more like a cheap JAV than the eroguro horror flick that i felt like it had the potential to be. maybe im "Dumb As Shit" for expecting big mind bending cinema from an adaptation of a porn manga bbut i don t care im just way too fucking cool honestly.
just2red has wanted to see this with me from some Disturbing Movie Iceberg. If you look at this as a gorefest like Saw or Braindead, There’s like two or three cool gore effect but the rest is concealed to black and white filters. Whenever it was a more shitty effect, seemed like the filmmakers were less comfortable with the product and would cut to a crappy black and white filter. There’s some horrible digital zooms with the Master character, where the film cuts to him doing a blank stare constantly in the gorefest moments. Unintentionally hilarious. Nice picks on classical music. Sometimes tried to be more poetic than it was and would just fall flat on itself. Main character is written horribly.
Does it deserve a place on the disturbing movie iceberg? I wasn’t disturbed, the best effects, while practical, would always still have something disingenous to them.
