Mahesh Narayanan always seemed to have an internal struggle on whether to be a documentarian or a commercial filmmaker. With Malik, it looks like he has figured out that conflict.
However, Malik in itself is facing another conflict. Is it about Ramadapally? Or is it about Ramadapally's Messiah?
In the opening scene of Premam, George is writing a letter and he gets distracted by the chaala convo and he accidentally write about that in the letter. Mahesh Narayanan is George, the letter was Ee Naadu and the chaala was Nayakan, or is it the other way around?
A great social drama, albeit maybe a little too lengthy. It could have easily been shortened by twenty to thirty minutes.
Overall, the story of this man with a kind heart but no qualms challenges many of his good actions, particularly when his foes and the religious conflict that prevails in this village lead to a climax and one of my favorite sequences when our anti-hero manages to bring the non-Muslim people to safety in the mosque physically armed. The score, as predicted, is rather fantastic, particularly the song towards the end with the chorus and all. The cinematography was fantastic, but it didn't always seem cinematic.
All in all, although again it could well cut the time and make a tighter film, this is a pretty good crime social drama.

KFG: Chapter 2
The movie is about the life story of Sulaiman Malik aka Ali, narrated in different time slices via flashbacks covering his childhood, middle age, his rise to prominence among the people living in the coastal regions, in the fight against the political and police corruption. The coastal region communal grounds play important characters and are cleverly plotted into the political turmoil. The movie is majorly driven by its densely written characters and their brilliant performances, well complemented by its cinematography and music elevating the drama.
It’s got some interesting and powerful moments; like building wall for mosque sequence, pre interval godfather like hunt down and murder of his rival, getting the tsunami affected Christians to stay in mosque and so…
Mālik is indeed one of the powerful movies in Malayalam cinema ever produced with lot of strong message. The way Mahesh brings the ability to tell the political storytelling is really fascinating to me. Like for real, the execution is magnificent be it the 2 long shots scenes. Before talking about FaFa, The whole cast was absolutely incredible. Nimisha Sajayan rules it. The way she embodies the character and my god, that emotional was tremendous. Vinay Fort as usual was great in this movie as well as Dileesh Pothan. Of course, the star would be Fahadh for sure. Like dude, this guy is in form of his entire life. Trance, Joji, Mahesh, 22FK, Thondimuthalum and now this. I can talk…

Don Vito Corleone once has said,“I have learned more in the streets than in any classroom.” One can suppose Ali ikka as same type of mob boss who has learnt everything in street strating from henious crimes such as smuggling, murders, illegal mafia activities to inherent human values including uttering truth aloud without a single miniute's hesitation, sustaining honesty, believing in loyalty, love and friendship irrespective to any discrimination of any race, caste and religions. He's a figure on which one can see many shades and reflections of literally every single morally straight mob bosses, appearing in the films from Hollywood to Bollywood to Kollywood till date— he's dangerous, he's unpredictable, he doesn't bother to kill his enemies…
Malik is a film about a man who protects his land and how he becomes the leader. Fahadh Faasil once again re-invents himself as Sulaiman. He carries the film with his acting and it was amazing as usual. Nimisha Vijayan and Vinay Fortt were good as supporting characters. The film is well crafted and would have been a more rewarding experience to watch on the big screen. Apart from some predictable scenes and drag here and there, Malik is a unique cinematic experience that follows the journey of a leader and his land. The exceptional performances and brilliant making makes this Mahesh Narayanan project a one of its kind film.

Joji, and now this. Fahadh Faasil owns the year 2021 in Malayalam Cinema.
After Take Off and C U Soon, Mahesh Narayanan tries his hand at the crime genre. Even though the story revolves around an aging patriarch, very much akin to Velu Naicker in Nayakan, and Vito Corleone in The Godfather, in terms of the character sketch, and the storyline has distinct shades of Vada Chennai here and there, at the heart of it, this is not just your run-of-the-mill crime film. Yes, it follows a conventional narrative structure, with the constant use of flashbacks to connect the arcs, a format tried and tested in the gangster films of Anurag Kashyap and Vetrimaaran. But here, Mahesh Narayanan weaves together a story of crime, friendship, religion, deceit, and political corruption.…
A triumph if you're to look at it from a political lens, as Malik morphs into its own Once Upon a Time in America meets The Godfather 2. But Malik is also suffocated from the very craft it boasts of. What you have here is an effort you love, but not a film that you can. Let me list out my reservations, which also extend to other films with the same vein:
1. Unlike American crime drama, Malik and almost all Indian films for that matter, do not exploit their own musical score they create. There's a score no doubt. Often one that is exciting, but it is always used in a very miser way. For every other "ras", a…
