1993 ‘Maniac Cop III: Badge of Silence’ Directed by William Lustig
A female cop is gunned down and wrongly accused of using excessive force in a hostage rescue attempt. Maniac cop returns from the dead once more to seek revenge, destroying everything and anyone that stands in his way.
Yeah, it’s a pretty big step down from the first 2, but it’s still quite fun and very watchable so I’m not sure why Lustig and Cohen needed to get all uppity and disown this??
Robert Davi is somehow simultaneously an advertisement for and against smoking. I love the whole “Bride of Maniac Cop” concept. I mean, if I was to look at this objectively then maybe I’d better understand the desire to disown this. Maybe. But I can’t and this is exactly the kind of ridiculous cinema that I love watching when I have to be up in 6 hours for a 12 hour shift and shouldn’t be watching anything at all.
Even though Bill Lustig and Larry Cohen think Maniac Cop 3 is an awful abomination, it's better than Maniac Cop 2. For a movie that was thrown together by a group of producers, I think the end result was better than some may lead you to believe. Through the entire film all I could think was, "you know, this really isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.." Despite my apprehension before the movie started, I'm glad I watched it.

I mean eh at this point it’s very formulaic and just the same movie—going on the third time? As always the stunts are just great with some decent make-up on gore than the previous ones. But this went down the hole most horror films do this far in and as cheap as they are. But I’m always up for another one? Cause the Cordell character is just very interesting.
Spooky Scary Horrorthons 5 - Film #16
Wouldn't Bride of Maniac Cop be a better subtitle than Badge of Silence?
This was pretty fun. It is certainly no Maniac Cop 2 or even Maniac Cop 1 but there is still such a vast amount of fun in this third installment so I don't see why some people (including the director himself) consider it a disaster.
Matt Cordell (Robert Z'Dar) once again proves to be an unstoppable force of police violence as he punches his way out of his own coffin to go on another rampage against law enforcers and civilians alike, Robert Z'Dar is as hulking and menacing as he ever was in the previous two films. And Robert Davi…
And finally Maniac Cop 3. After two solid films this third installment suffers from a noticeable decline in quality. Apparently Lustig walked off set and another director had to step in to take over. So it makes sense given the inconsistent feel of this movie.
Robert Davi is back and gives another strong performance. Robert Z'dar who plays Maniac Cop is also back and is just as menacing as ever. Other than those two actors there really isn't any other good performances. There's also a shift away from the gritty and atmospheric vibes of the first two films as it enters more of a 90s camp territory. The pacing is slower and its bogged down by more police procedural scenes.…
Stick 'er in a rock garden!
Stupid Alan Smithee, padding out a perfectly fine 51 minute movie with stock footage and boiler room scenes.
Daily Horror Scavenger Hunt 8 – February 2019 Day 5: Today in 1906, John Carradine was born in Greenwich Village, New York. We're going to watch a movie set in New York.
Probably my favourite of the series for the reason Maniac Cop has come back to life and there's a freakin' cool shoot out in the hospital that while too short, was plenty bloody and featured Robert Davi (or more likely his stunt double) doing a pretty sweet switcheroo move through an opening in the wall. So yeah this was pretty fun. But I was tired and this doesn't totally switch things up enough. I got a little tired of the lack of horror towards the end (even though that part could be the most horror-esque part of the movie), so not a completely successful watch but waaaay better than I was expecting based on reputation.
I was wondering when this series would succumb to a particular plot device, and that was explaining the antagonists existence. And poorly at that, the previous two movies did not do so. Whilst in the first movie he wasn't actually dead, and it was explained so logically. And in the second movie he's just a zombie for no reason, which is good and spooky like Micheal Myers. We don't always need things to happen for a reason, especially not some weird voodoo shit cliche. Why on Earth did he bring him back as well?? just to clear the cops name?? So stupid, I hate it when they shoehorn crap like that into horror movies.
That was my biggest gripe with…
Matt Cordell is such a potent symbol of evil, with his impeccable uniform, hideously disfigured face, massive frame, pure white gloves, and constantly swinging nightstick that it almost works to offset the weird reactionary politics here. The first two MC movies aren't exactly George Romero, but here we are firmly on the questionable side of law and order - the plot has to do with a cop being wrongfully blamed for killing a suspect who actually deserved to die, and who ends up joined with Cordell in some kind of undead voodoo marriage ceremony for reasons that are unclear to me. I am aware that there are people out there who believe that cops are treated unfairly by the media…
Was planning to skip this seeing how Lustig hated it so much he walked off the set, but things don't always turn out the way we expect them to. Somehow on this fine evening I got possessed by some supernatural being and was forced to embark on a tedious journey towards regret. Not much I can do about it, you know.
A really disappointing end to the series. More of the same just not as entertaining. One whole star for the John Woo-esque dual-wield shootout.
Not as great as the first two (director Bill Lustig walked off set at one point) but still delivers the goods when it matters. The Maniac Cop is back through some voodoo revenge nonsense and this is mainly a hospital bound horror show with some campy gore and fun action, but it ends with some spectacular fiery car stunts, really great stuff, and stars Robert Davi, Jackie Earle Haley, Julius Harris, Robert Forster, and big bad Robert Z'Dar, this is a fun series of movies, case closed!

Sadly things really go off the rails with Maniac Cop 3. There's a voodoo master, lots of exciting hospital drama, and a little bit of a Maniac Cop.
The cast is fun. Jackie Earl Haley is in this and Robert Z'Dhar is back again! Ted Raimi has a small role as a newscaster. The Raimi bothers are newscasters in all of these films.
As with the first two, Maniac Cop 3 was written and co-produced by Larry Cohen. But this time around, the director was Alan Smithee. William Lustig's rough cut was only 51 minutes long and he refused to shoot what the producers wanted. Joel Soisson was brought on to finish the film. Needless to say, this drama did not help the finished film.
I always expected this to be a dud, but it's just as good as the other entries in the a Maniac Cop franchise. It is arguably the most ridiculous entry, but it is viciously entertaining and more action-packed than the previous films.
Not a particularly memorable conclusion to Maniac Cop, but the production side of things still rules.
Also very funny when Cordell stoically bumped into like 3 light bulbs on his walk through the NY tunnels. I mean, he could’ve ducked and yet he kept on shattering them with his hunk head
Not as good as the first one but has its moments. Need to track down maniac cop 2. Haven't seen it. One of my favorite actors Robert Forster is in for a bit so that's a automatic thumbs up from me. Like others has stated. It kinda picks up at the end. I would have given it a 2.8 if possible, so I guess that's leave me no choice but to give it 3 stars.
Totally watchable without being very memorable. Davi usually bothers me but he's subdued and effective here.
