Mars Attacks! is maybe a tad messy and unfocused, but with an ensemble cast like this, it's a small price to pay for a total joy-buzzer of a sci-fi riff. Bursting to the brim with movie stars - to the point that it's impossible to single anyone out - and led by Tim Burton's undiluted love for flying saucer films, this is absolutely the greatest 'alien invasion' movie from 1996. From the countless green and red skeletons, to the eye-popping costuming by icon Colleen Atwood, to the continuous sense of mischievous fun, Mars Attacks! has aged remarkably well. Not just as a devious mid-90s spectacle, eager to melt the flesh off…

I'm perfectly happy with this being not much more than an excuse for Burton to indulge in shtick, chintzy design, and pastiche. As such I'm also pretty comfortable calling it his last good movie.

Don’t let logic get in the way of a good time. If you accept what you’re seeing is batshit crazy, it’s quite a good movie, and bold especially at a budget of $70 million. This has one of the best casts ever assembled in a single film. You will never see anything like this.
