I assumed this would be the kind of film I'd loathe for, again, assuming it would subject its two female leads, Morjana Alaoui and Mylène Jamponï in opprobrious and humiliating affair.
The film isn't "I Spit on Your Grave", nor is it the "Saw" series, nor is it "A Serbian Film", which are all are mindless debaucheries of torture porn.
No. "Martyrs" is a cynical exercise, yes, but one with a real story, involving fleshed out characters with an exact motive. It is a violent account of redemption, and heinous suffering, with moments of true horror that left a profoundly disturbing image in my head.
A movie like this is only morally bad when it has no reason for it…
