Jared Hess is a very hit or miss director for many and even that is probably an understatement. I’ve personally always been a fan of the “quirky” director. ‘Napoleon Dynamite’ is one of my favourite films of all time, I honestly just absolutely adore every aspect of that film. Nacho Libre is also a film that I really enjoy, being a huge Jack Black fan probably helps. I’ve never seen any of Hess’ other work up until the point.
I remember when the trailer for this film came out, I believe I was in the theatre for ‘Get Hard’ with my dad and upon watching this trailer, I was actually quite intrigued. I was definitely anticipating the film, of course…
I laughed a bunch at Kate McKinnon’s jilted lover character. Every scene she’s in is funny. That’s the good news. The bad news is she’s only in four scenes. And the scenes without her ain’t good.
Congratulations Jared Hess, you did it. You made a film that lowered the bar to a point of nonexistance. When the joke that had the most people laughing is a guy sharting in a pool, you know you've reached a new low.
Napoleon Dynamite was a fluke. Jared Hess has been and will continue to be Shit. Please don't see this movie, it's horrible and my least favorite film of the year so far.
Also take the fact that this was based on a true story with a grain of salt.
Also, Kate McKinnon is the best part, but that's not saying much
I’m so high I was actually going to write an essay about this movie being comedic genius
This was extremely dumb, but sometimes it was funny. As a former Owen Wilson completionist, I kind of yearn for more films like The Royal Tenenbaums. Kate McKinnon stole whichever scenes she was in.
Kate McKinnon Marathon, movie #2
Vegan alert:
The David Ghantt character says he feels like a "corndog at a hotdog party".
Kate McKinnon Marathon, movie #1: The Angry Birds Movie
Kate McKinnon Marathon, movie #3: Office Christmas Party
You farted right into my butt hole. It's like a fart transplant.
With a quote like that and it is still not as “good” as F.A.R.T. The Movie. Not sure where this leaves me, or the state of flatulence in cinema.
The committed cast of Masterminds tries hard, but their efforts are for nought in this awkward, confused, mostly unfunny Coen Brothers knock-off.
a feature film adaptation of jean-claude van damme's mullet from HARD TARGET. it's like if sam peckinpah did SEX AND THE CITY 2, but carrie and the gang do dollywood instead of abu dhabi. PAIN AND GAIN mixed with GUMMO by way of EASTBOUND AND DOWN season 2. owen wilson is ready to win an oscar in the ric flair biopic. also the kate mckinnon x kristen wiig fight scene, which ends with kristen wiig putting vaginal cream in kate mckinnon's mouth, is like the 2nd best action sequence in a movie this year. jared hess is the trailer park wes anderson, and he's still the GOAT.
