I really enjoyed Double Happiness, another film I saw by Mina Shum. I decided to check out Meditation Park and wasn't disappointed. Sandra Oh isn't in as many films as I would like. In this, her timing is impeccable and she is natural as well as able to pull off dramatic scenes. The other actors are great too. It focuses on the mother/grandmother (played by Cheng Pei Pei). It explores the cultural, gender, and generational differences between the characters balancing drama and comedy very well. All in all, it was a good watch and comes highly recommended.
-The father found a job slaughtering chickens when he first came to Canada (no violence shown).
-Several whole/dead fish were shown at a fish market.
