  A lovely film that creatively adapts fact into fiction via the filmmaker's personal archives of the Lebanese Civil War. It’s too eager to tie up loose ends, when really those were what made the film so interesting — but I can hardly blame the filmmakers for wanting closure.

  The concept of archiving memories is quite an interesting subject. Memory Box looks at a life gone by blended with the turmoil in Lebanon. Personally, the political side wasn't fully explored, but I found the reminiscence of youth to be very touching and beautiful. Quite an exciting drama, but it needed a bit more fleshing out.

  The story follows a girl who discovers her mother’s past life during the Lebanese Civil War through her correspondence with her friend who passed. It reminded me of how I used to communicate with my best friend after I moved to another state (pre-Facebook).

  The first half might be too cute/clever stylistically for its own good, but the second half still lands with an emotional wallop. A powerful story of a daughter reliving her mother’s war-torn youth through journals, tapes, and scrapbooks in the digital age that makes its parallel observations quietly but forcefully. I loved what it had to say about how memories can shape us and also set us free.

  A testimony of a collective memory, from Canada to Lebanon of a secret buried between generations of a deep trauma. A very moving film about mourning, reconstruction and the return to one's origins in this historical narrative where everything carries you to an emotional symbiosis of a nostalgic sweetness.

  If I wasn't late in viewing I would have included it in my top 2022

  أظن إن مافيش ذكريات سعيد، كل الذكريات حزينة
  لو كانت الأحداث دي سعيدة على الإنسان وقت حدوثها وتذكرها الشخص بعد زمن سوف يحزن لما هو عليه الأن.
  ولو كانت حزينه وقت حدوثها سوف تحزن لما حدث من قبل

  أقصد بالحزن هنا هو الحنين والرغبة في إعادة الشعور وليس الكئابة والبؤس.
  الحزن دائما ما يعلق في عقل الإنسان وليست اللحظات السعيدة.
  تمر السنين وماذال الإنسان بتذكر كل ما كان صعب عليه، و "لبنان" بلد ممزقة بالحزن.

  صندوق الذكريات فيلم لبناني فرنسي، عن ثلاث نساء من أجيال مختلفة يغرقون داخل صندوق من الذكريات يحكون من خلاله ذكرياتهم وتاريخ لبنان الحزين من خلال رحلة جميلة وشاعرية في الماضي ومتوسطة جداً في الحاضر.

  Memory Box est émouvant et d'une densité rare. C'est un film sur la communication: entre deux époques, entre des générations au sein d'une famille, entre des amis séparés par de simples vacances... ou par la guerre. Le film nous plonge dans le Liban des années 80 à travers d'innovants procédés techniques qui affichent une véritable continuité dans le travail d'artiste de Joana Hadjithomas et Khalil Joreige. En ce sens, un des thèmes de ce film est également la communication entre différentes formes de supports artistiques, modelés par leur époques. Finalement, le film se termine sur une note d'espoir, dans un Liban qui n'existe plus aujourd'hui, mais qui pourrait être compris comme le fragment d'un futur possible. À ne pas rater.
