What the fuck were they thinking. No identity. No character. No arcs. No chemistry. No humour. No narrative hook. No fun creature designs. Didn’t like a single scene. Avoid.
turned to my mom excitedly when i realized the small pawn alien was voiced by kumail nanjiani but she was asleep
are this years summer blockbusters bad or is everyone on this site just incapable of having fun?
I hated the Kumail Nanjiani alien so badly that I started to like him in a sick way. I wanted to see how far they would push the laziness of his perspectiveless punch-up jokes and became convinced he was going to say “..so THAT just happened” or possibly “I’ve always wanted to say that” before the film’s end. When he instead opted for the dark-horse “I’m okay!” after falling down I became inconsolable and had to leave the theater to cry in anger.
Liked it otherwise, though. Fun popcorn movie for the whole family.
It's endlessly interesting to me that this series that insists on performing toward the awe, wonder, and endless possibilities of the universe instead centers on a vast, impenetrable government bureaucracy with infinite technological resources that would doubtlessly enrich the lives of billions if not many more yet is devoted to ensuring that everyone and everything remains in its place. In this one you give up Sonnenfeld's keen get-on-with-it sense of pace but you also don't have to put up with him putting a button on every joke with that goddamn wide angle photography. No matter what this is a triumph of studio franchise content, every ounce the MEN IN BLACK movie nobody really asked for or will ever care about. It's thoroughly adequate. Knock yourselves out.

(Because it’s a very forgettable movie you see. Full review at ScreenCrush.)
worthless franchise filmmaking in its most bare, apathetic form. even white noise has the marvel stamp on it now.
