Miami Vice (2006) - I understand why this isn’t as popular as Mann’s other films, it’s more detailed and deliberate with less action than many expect from a crime film. However it is this that makes me love it, the complicated plot and Mann’s eye for immersive verisimilitude. Miami Vice takes its time, it’s not particularly flashy or suspenseful for the most part, it’s all about mood, feel, atmosphere. And yeah it’s damn cool too. Is it as good as Thief, Manhunter, Heat, Collateral? No, but few crime films in the last forty years are. Also, some white supremacists get completely wasted in this movie, which is as refreshing as it ever was.
