Oriol Paulo knows how to do plot twists, and I'm adding Mirage to my list of underrated movies I like to recommend watching on Netflix. His previous film, The Invisible Guest is already on that list ))
Mirage is a must-watch for anyone who enjoys movies that deal with the Butterfly Effect as well as crime thrillers - this movie has both of those elements, and it juggles them impressively well. It's not as "twisty" as The Invisible Guest, but believe me, there is plenty going on to keep you at the edge of your seat, and plenty of surprises in store. It's not perfectly air-tight (movies that have to do with time travel rarely are), but it's close enough,…
Oriol Paulo's newest is a big disappointment, if you're expecting an unpredictable story with great twists (like the awesome "The Invisible Guest"), don't waste your time, this is just a generic butterfly effect movie.
The worst thing about this film is the script, which in theory should be the strong point of the movie. The first half hour has so much exposition that you can already guess everything that will happen/be used after the butterfly effect. It's the kind of movie in which the protagonist will take too long to accept that the butterfly effect happened, in this case here the protagonist annoyingly takes about half an hour to realize that "well, I've changed something in the past and it…
Close Encounters of the Feb Kind
Cheeky old Netflix went and snuck out a timeloopy / alternate timelines sci-fi thingy and didn't tell me about it. But I *always* find out about them in the end.
Looking at some reviews here on Letterboxd, it seems only the Spanish speaking world have watched this so far, so clearly I'm not the only one who hadn't been informed about Mirage. Yet again, it's another case of Netflix really being quite poor in managing its originals, whether I think this deserved a wider audience or not.
I do, as it happens. As I've mentioned before, there is always a disclaimer with me that I can't resist films like this but…

I had no anticipation for this film or any clue what the plot was about. It’s always a cool feeling going into a movie with that mentality because it’s rare today. Mirage gave me a lot to chew on and honestly, I’m still trying to process and digest. It’s been a crazy weekend for trippy content. With this, Us and Part II of the OA; I’m going to need therapy on Monday. The story centers around two individuals, separated by 25 years, who begin to communicate with each other. One’s story changes the timeline and the other has her life completely altered because of it. It’s an interesting exploration to discover…
