Here’s a pitch:
“Ok…it’s WHEN HARRY MET SALLY in a FUTURAMA like world(s)”
Maybe not the most obvious sell but Im damn glad someone had the chops and the skill to make it.
I was really taken with this Sci-Fi Rom-Com that had great leads with chemistry for days (and dimensions) and a home-made, Lo-fi feel to the VFX that added to the charm.
Even if you dont like FX-heavy Sci-FI or broad, off-beat humor, the relationships are very modern and win you over for the small details.
A genre mash-up that’s really a sweet hangout movie too.
So glad I saw it in a theater with a crowd and can’t wait to watch it again at home.
Screened at the 2023 Fantasia Film Festival.
when Harry met Sally is an all timer for me, so i thought this was a really cute and funny twist on it
A quirky lo-fi sci-fi charmer with such a likable pair at its center that I almost wanted it to just be a two-hander. Part The Fifth Element, part When Harry Met Sally, and you certainly don’t see that combo every day.
SXSW 2023 - Michael Lukk Litwak’s first feature is an absolute blast! I’m in awe of this kind of meticulous world-building, and I found myself immediately invested in Molli and Max’s future as a couple. The film does the romantic comedy genre proud.
Also, the practical effects here are so much more pleasing to the eye than the copious amounts of ugly CGI splattered across tentpole movies. Everything feels tangible and real, and I guarantee you the effects will age better than most movies overloaded with millions of dollars of VFX. Go Litwak and team!
out of all the space romcoms i’ve seen today— this was my least favorite…
"This is what draws us to Litwak’s sci-fi rom-com: the film is, at the same time, absurd and grounded. There are unfamiliar environments, exaggerated behaviors, odd personalities, but there are also dynamics that are ultimately very human. Molli and Max In The Future uses this absurdity to make a point about our own fears and the society we live in, and how the things we’ve been taught about love and life are the very same factors that stand in the way of our own happiness." hey mike, if you're reading this, fuck you, how on EARTH did you finish all of these VFX in 7 months???
everyone else, go see my friend's brilliant and heartfelt movie as soon as you can! it's good content, as they say, has a brilliant score by one of my other cool friends! not that i'm biased or anything nope
Four and a half stars…
Wait? A BLOOPER REEL?!?? I thought those went extinct!!!!!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Oh wow. You know how you sometimes INSTANTLY swoon for a movie? Y'know, that feeling you get when a film hits that perfect mixture of sweet, funny, romantic, and creative? That's Molli and Max.
Zosia Mamet and Aristotle Athari offer plenty of charm, and writer/director Michael Lukk Litwak is a major name to watch. I'm already IN on his next project. Also, I'm fully ready to embrace the sport of cyber tennis!
Watched as part of Anomaly - The Rochester Genre Film Festival 2023! Included the excellent bonus of a virtual Q&A with Litwak after the screening, where he dropped a tidbit about a potential Molli and Max TV show(!!).
I really liked our main characters, & they had good chemistry together, so this worked well for me. Really love the world building throughout, & they've done a lot with the small budget. I'd happily watch it again & hope more people give it a look (too bad it wasn't screened virtually for CFF, though I know that's not CFF's choice).
Delightful. You can feel the huge amount of love that went into the making of this film.
