Ya'll call yourselves cinema fans and then collectively give this fucking masterpiece 2.2 stars? RottenTomatoes, I understand, but I expected better from the Letterboxd community. This is literally more creative and visually interesting than 90% of Disney's output for the last decade, but ya'll are too busy watching movies about French women who make mushroom soup and love the smell of rain or whatever to appreciate this.

Anyway, bring back loud, aggressive, creative, high-budget, lowbrow psychedelic comedies.

Eyes were closed for about 30% of this I was very tired but every time I opened them I saw some new insane thing and wow they really went all out on the boner monkey movie!!

This was some weird combination of Eraserhead, Son of the Mask, Beetlejuice and Who framed Roger Rabbit.

I was horrified half of the time.

I actually kinda liked this when it felt like a satire of a thousand hypersexed manic depressive underground comic strips, less so when it became a high concept comedy about a horny cartoon monkey in Brendan Fraser's body. If you squint you can almost see a story about a staunch anti-commercialist Bill Watterson-like cartoonist becoming possessed by his shameless Calvinesque alter ego but that would be a much smarter and more focused version of whatever this is. Some great visual effects though, and a fun cast, although I now have even more insight into why Bridget Fonda retired from acting.

I enjoyed getting Monkey boned! A Secret Success in my book.
