  First off, the scream-factory restoration of the uncut material, mostly being lingering gore inserts of dangling eyeballs and pick-axe punctures, is beautiful. While being a golden-age slasher, it's still uncommonly visceral. The ensemble cast give the story a compelling seriousness that resides within a blue-collar milieu. Why is a mining town and their 30 year old workers so invested in a Valentine's Day dance? At the end of the day, it doesn't matter, My Bloody Valentine sells it. All the red and pink colors are lovely, mixing well with the pastel blood and guts, and the final act is fucking scary. Most slashers don't freak me out like this one does. The hopelessness of the mine caverns, the dark pathways and the unsettling image of a man in a gas mask - it's determined and relentless by the end. Watch it if you haven't.

  My Bloody Valentine is easily one of my very favorite slasher films, and for my money one of the best. 1981 was a hell of a year for the genre, in fact, 1978 to 1984 may be my most watched era of horror, producing a bevy of films that I'd easily call some of my favorites.

  I've always been fascinated by this movie... after the big name slasher films I found my way to this, The Burning, and The Prowler (which is a fun double bill with MBV!). I think I was around 13 or 14 when I first saw it, IMMEDIATELY after I couldn't wait to watch the sequel...   Hollywood’s ability to exploit a date commonly circled on a calendar for jovial reasons and fill it with murder mayhem is awesome. Give me all of the holiday set death romps. GIVE US THE ARBOR DAY SLASHER WE DESERVE! 

  Anyway yeah, this is one of the best slasher movies ever 5 stars.

  Can you even believe that the first time I saw this I didn’t really like it?! Of course that was over 25 years ago and I guess as a kid I just couldn’t appreciate anything that wasn’t shiny and brand new (movies included) so I’m really glad my taste has evolved because this is really is a great slasher. Notice how I didn’t say my taste has “gotten better” because a browse through my watch history will easily argue against that, right?

  The first half of the movie is probably why kid me didn’t take to it. There isn’t a whole lot of action, but every time I’ve watched this as an adult I really love all those kooky townsfolk,…

  It's insane that this movie only has one remake and thats it. No plethora of sequels, reboots, spinoffs or anything. Nice.

  Loved the aesthetic, some kills were great, but the third act dragged a bit near the end.
