  a horrendous and sickening narrative of the thin line between art and abuse; boundary-pushing doesn't equate to celebratory. what an awful thing to have your childhood taken away from you in unimaginable ways. it didn't help that most of this happened in real life either. sadly, this film was unreasonably saturated in its own realism it seemed rather slow, distracting, and disengaging in some parts. Isabelle Huppert can cut with her eyes and freeze up every goddamn nerve in my body with her depiction of utter indifference, subtle manipulation, greed, and selfishness. I'd never want her as my mother.

  "My Little Princess" explora un tema polemico; basicamente nos pregunta hasta donde puede el erotismo considerarse arte y donde empieza la explotacion. La cinta lidia con la relacion de una madre y su hija, la madre es fotografa y sus fotos actuan como una provocacion. Cuando descubre que su hija es fotogenica decide explotarla y hacerse famosa.
  Muchos podrian ver las fotos y considerarlas como pornografia infantil y aunque yo no las percibo asi es claro el daño que se le puede hacer a una niña cuando se le expone a un ambiente que ella no puede entender. "My Little Princess" tiene elementos autobiograficos de su directora, Eva Lonesco y representa una propuesta interesante y poderosa acerca de una relacion enfermiza ademas de la responsabilidad que tiene el arte.

  My Little Princess is about a complicated love/hate (mostly hate) relationship between mother and daughter. It fictionalizes events of its Director's (Eva Ionesco's) childhood, when her mother published erotic and nude photos of her which gained notoriety and caused scandals. In some ways it condemns and vilifies her mother, Irina Ionesco, yet it also pay tribute to her art, recreating some of her most famous and controversial pictures.

  On the technical side of things, it's well made. Despite the abuse and exploitation she had to endure, Eva Ionesco clearly got her mother's eye for art and fashion.

  A French film by first time director Eva Ionesco about a troubled Mother/Daughter relationship that takes a peculiar turn when the Mother begins taking erotic photos of her underage Daughter. A pretty interesting, if not painfully awkward and uncomfortable, look at not only the ins and outs of the relationship, but also what truly constitutes art. The greatest strength of this film is the Mother/Daughter relationship played wonderfully by the two leads; Isabelle Huppert is fantastic as the erratic, possibly schizophrenic, Mother and first time actress Anamaria Vartolomei is perfect as the young girl.   To be fair, we watched this with truly janky French captioning that clearly wasn’t matching what was being said a lot of the time, so take my review knowing I understood about 30% of the dialogue. I could be rating it too high or too low, who can say?

  Isabelle is marvelous as always (Happy Birthday, Queen!), and she adds humanity to someone who basically acts like a monster the whole time. The lead playing her daughter is very good, too.

  I think what this does a great job of is using lush imagery to make you feel slightly grosser and grosser looking at that imagery as you realize it’s born out of a mother’s exploitation of her daughter’s body, as she’s all the while convinced that it’s art.

  A fascinating story, further fuelled by the fact that it's based on the director's childhood. The costumes are divine and the acting is great. I couldn't believe some of the things that happened to Violetta. I did enjoy it, but it felt like there was something missing. Perhaps it stuck too close to reality for a well-rounded narrative.

  A relevant, but ultimately flawed film. Eva Ionesco directorial debut is loosely base on her own childhood in which her mother infamously photographed her in controversially erotic ways. Most likely, because this "art" was done in the mix of the cultural confusion of the 1970's, her mother's work was accepted as "art" and the charges of "child porn" were never culturally addressed. While similar art was created in the US with Brooke Shields, that work carried an uncomfortable innocence despite courting controversy. Ionesco's work was anything but innocent and remains to many (including myself) remain perverse and repugnant example of child exploitation.

  Initially loving the attention when her photographer mother asks her to pose for her, a young girl grows concerned that her mother may be exploiting her in this French drama. Anamaria Vartolomei is excellent as the young protagonist and her strained relationship with her mother is very dynamic. The film is written and directed by Eva Ionesco, one of the lead actresses of Maladolescenza and is reportedly based on her own discomfort filming that movie. Ionesco offers a very santised and toned down portrait of child abuse though.   Como muchas películas, por más que tengan una buena intención de fondo, la exposición de menores edad en la pantalla me genera ruido. Así que por eso estoy en el medio.

  La estética entre el vínculo de la madre con su hija a través de la fotografía te hace sentir vulnerable; porque a pesar del daño que te puede causar la persona que, en suposición, te ama más, la película retrata la dependencia emocional familiar.
