  A bold endeavour, but ultimately a failure, rested on the unsure shoulders of McAvoy’s improv skills. Relying on a gimmick as your draw spells out a sore lack of ideas and a vast amount of winging, My Son without any inkling of gravitas or prowess to take flight. McAvoy looks like he’s wracking his brain trying to think of what to say next, anticipating his colleague providing him the next plot cue, trying valiantly to keep a stiff upper lip, but the mask slips. 

  Claire Foy and McAvoy’s loss of their child doesn’t ring true, expressing the haste of a lost pet rather than their own offspring, while McAvoy’s background is touched on seemingly with an intention of significance, only…

  the gimmick is interesting and mcavoy does a very impressive job with it improvising all of his lines while giving a powerful performance at the same time, but besides that this is a super rushed, super generic thriller that does absolutely nothing with absolutely nothing, james saved it from being a 2.5.
  if you want to see james with a scottish accent freestyle his way through a movie watch it if not it's not worth it

  Usually I never watch remakes and just stick with the original but I mean, come on, JAMES MCAVOY is in it so I couldn’t miss this and I’m glad that I didn’t cause it was so damn good; plus, I read somewhere that James McAvoy improvised every single one of his lines in here (he had just the context of the scene) and that made me even more curious to watch it because I cant imagine how hard that must have been and aaAAAh that just proves my man has talent and that he’s so awesome and that he's perfection.   "My Son" von Christian Carion, ist das Remake seines französischen Films "Mon garçon" aus dem Jahr 2017, mit James McAvoy und Claire Foy in den Hauptrollen. Ich kenne das französische Original nicht und kann daher nicht sagen, ob der Film hier ein gutes oder schlechtes Remake ist.

  McAvoy spielt Edmond Murray, einen abwesenden Vater, dessen Sohn mitten in der Nacht während eines Sommerlagers in den schottischen Highlands, aus seinem Bett verschwindet. Edmond verdächtigt zunächst den neuen Mann an der Seiter seiner Ex-Frau, der deutlich mehr über sein neues Haus besorgt ist, als über das Verschwinden seines Stiefsohns.
