No funeral, no goodbye, just a life full of memories.
A story about love and loss.
Here 'Narcosis' characters they feel anger, anguish and denial, each of them cocooned in their own sac of misery, unable to say what they feel, even to themselves. Grief here is as messy as it is in real life.
🥀 : Death leaves a heartache no one can heal
Tender and simple depiction of grief.
It packs mighty punches in small mundane moments.
My heart breaks a little, a lot of times, during the duration of this.
The film only depicts calm and slow day-to-day activity, but it effectively shows the lingering grief and sadness in everything.
I love how there’s no big explosion/ conclusion because I feel like that’s what usually happens.
Life goes on, and you grieve in silence and also accept in silence.
There might be no momentous thing, but grief is silently carried for the rest of their life.
And once they are able to move on, it doesn’t make life suddenly change and everything become okay again, but I hope that they can breathe a little bit easier.
2023 International Oscar Submissions - #24 🇳🇱
I can’t come for you yet. But I’m practising.
Narcosis is a poignant meditation on grief, working towards realisation that processing loss does not mean that the pain will ever go away. With its beautiful, melancholic piano soundtrack, it regularly juxtaposes the gloomy present with blissful memories, providing just enough context to invite the viewer to join the therapeutic journey.
it was just very oscar baity at times , the acting was great even with the kinda cringy dialog dutch movies always seem to have. the child actors were good. its a top tier dutch film. theres just the her being a medium type person for work thats kinda eh but it works in the movie, its a it was really slow but not in a bad way.
Dealing with loss is mostly difficult, teary and painful. The long process of finally accepting and willing to saying a farewell must take some dramas and possible crazy actions. It's natural, it's what we called grieving.
The farewell scene with self acceptance call in a phone booth hits me real hard. It's so emotional yet beautiful in the same time.
