Sophie Okonedo I already know you're an amazing actress I don't need you to be in the middle of a complicated Shakespeare monologue and then pause to pull a real live snake out of a basket and continue the complicated Shakespeare monologue while holding a live snake just to prove that you're the best actor to ever play Cleopatra too we get it you're amazing you don't have anything to prove we already know that you're the best actor in the whole world we been knew love you queen you're the goat❤❤❤❤

NTLIVE keeps up the star power for their latest giveaway with Ralph Fiennes and Sophie Okonedo in Shakespeare’s tragic play. This is a three hour commitment (think of it as a very short Netflix series) but it is compelling all the way through. (You could tell the audience was fully engaged because in the scene where Antony requests that his aid-de-camp kill him, but he kills himself instead, you can hear the gasp from the crowd.)

I don’t really know enough about this play to really appreciate but that didn’t dampen my enjoyment of this important. With a great sense of grandeur in its modern ministry setting and style, it is a faultless production which has an absolutely striking set, nonetheless it’s the performances of that of its leads and supporting actors that really make this play so great. All at the top of their games.
Oh and if you didn’t know, Voldemort is the most versatile actor ever.

I saw this live at the National last autumn and for some reason never logged it, suffice it to say that this 3 hour epic never feels anything less than gripping, with the tumultuous and passionate tale of two headstrong lovers capturing in sweeping scale and staging grandeur something that is fleeting, rare - it’s love, it’s war, and it is quintessentially Shakespearean. Ralph Fiennes and Sophie Okonedo are extraordinary, and the perpetually breathtaking use of the Olivier Theatre’s multi-levelled, rotating stage creates an experience that is cinematic in production and uniquely theatrical in visualisation and innovation.
