WHO THE HELL GAVE THIS FILM THE RIGHT?!?!
From the promo on the homepage of Netflix I assumed this would be a mediocre Big Hero 6 rip off. Hot damn I was wrong. It hits a lot of the same beats but is surprisingly mature in its storytelling. The animation and overall aesthetic was just sublime! I love the chemistry between the lead characters as well and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't blubbing towards the end. I went in expecting a campy mess but this flick packs one hell of an emotional gut punch.
big hero 6 at the beginning, iron giant at the middle, and age of ultron at the end LOL
A recipe for disaster?
Let's make Next Gen as if we were cooking Stir Fry Noodles. (Because noodles were in the film)
1) Heat up the frying pan and add 1 or 2 tablespoons of Astro Boy.
2) Fry Blade Runner and Big Hero 6 together. Toss well and cook for 2 minutes.
3) Add in Wall-E. Scramble it, and mix with Big Hero 6 mixture.
4) Add in 1 tablespoon of i,Robot and mix well.
5) Transfer the mixed ingredients into a Netflix Contract.
6) Heat up the frying pan again, Add Robots and toss gently every minute and cook for 3 minutes.
7) Add in the step 6 mixture. Toss well. Do it gently so that you won't…
Thanks, I cried 😭 that rainbow scene/moment was an absolute stunning piece of animation! My heart is all warm and fuzzy now
Netflix originals are generic as a general rule, but every movie they’ve pumped out aimed at younger audiences has been delightful. Maybe they ought to stick to kids movies.
The world building was fun, as it should be, but some elements left me wishing the main conflict would have been centered around something else, or spent more time on the rules of the world. That being said, I loved that the protagonist was basically a luddite. In a world where everyone has as many AIs in their homes as the average household has electronics today, it was a fun plot device. The story ended up being pretty par for the course for something of this genre, but it still had…
Big Hero 6 meets Wall-E meets Terminator.
Sad and angry teenage girl connects with a robot for all the wrong reasons to then find out he was the best friend she was missing all along.
Absolutely beautiful animation!! Great action scenes.
Maybe a bit too long in run time, but I enjoyed it in the end.

Next Gen really surprised me. This is my first Netflix original animated film so I was expecting something very lackluster. To my surprise, this movie has a lot to like. The voice cast is the obvious place to start. Krasinski and Cross, in particular, were great. I love how they portray this future world and give us something that has quite a bit of inventiveness to it. It’s a movie that a lot of people will compare to things like Big Hero 6 or Wall-E. It definitely takes those elements, which compromises its ability to feel unfamiliar at times. But I liked what they did with those ideas to change it…
"I can't delete any of your memories"
Visually impressive and bursting with oolor, Next Gen tells a sickly sweet, if somewhat familiar and tone deaf adventure whose central relationship manages to gloss over, to an extent some of the animated effort's more immediate flaws. -
Overall Score: C
P.S.: Wasn't as much of a ripoff as I had initially assumed. The cussing dog was very unnecessary though and unfunny.
