A pleasant surprise. No Exit is a perfectly self-aware thriller that never strives to be something it's not. As a low-budget survival tale, it works in its own small ways thanks to the claustrophobic, atmospheric nature of the story, as well as a strong central performance from Havana Rose Liu as the highly welcome Asian girl boss.
Expanding on one of those single-location situations, No Exit follows a drug addict girl's eventful experiences at a visitors center, where she encounters a kidnapped girl locked in a van. It's a story as simple as it gets, but the way the story unfolds is truly worth one's time, even if it feels stagnant during the midsection. Gore, suspense, and the classic theme of self-redemption intertwine and create a truly edge-of-your-seat experience.
Other than its plot inconsistencies at times, No Exit is overall a genuinely compelling indie thriller that sacrifices cliches for a strong dose of heart and soul. Recommended.
