Things got off to a wonderful start--good chemistry, good dialogue, and charm. James Stewart and Rosalind Russell were great together until Genevieve Tobin showed up. Then, the whole tone of the movie changed and Stewart became unlikable. I guess it mimicked the story in that the comedic, light-hearted plays written by Stewart's character were much more successful than the dramas.
I don't know if I've seen Russell look so beautiful. She was composed and classy yet still showed her knack for dialogue. She and Stewart made a striking couple. I didn't believe the changes to his character or how easily he fell under Tobin's spell. Louise Beavers was awesome!
James Stewart's character is from the made-up Redfield, MN. Population 786, including livestock.
