  Very lean, silly high-concept thriller situation peppered with the right amount of ensemble character personalities and a hurt, flawed protagonist whose self-pity and paranoia we identify with. It's feelings of personal and national failure staged as a vertigo-fueled trek through seemingly secure (but increasingly tight) spaces. Collet-Serra is really good at this stuff.

  A neatly done air thriller with a good premise setup, suspenseful screenplay and strong actions. It does obviously takes convenient cinematic liberties, yet stays intense and engaging enough. The final 20 odd minutes hits you with solid thrills. Liam Nelson does what he does best. Julianne Moore and the rest of the supporting cast were adequate. A worthwhile watch.

  Someone tries to frame Liam Neeson on a plane. Big mistake. Neeson humors them for a while with some back-and-forth text messages. He already looks over this shit. There’s a fight in a cramped bathroom, surprisingly coherent. Unsurprisingly, it doesn’t end well for the other guy. Neeson keeps getting more and more pissed off because everyone thinks he’s hijacking the plane. He’s trying to save it, dammit! Eventually he finds out who’s behind it all and, you guessed it, he fucking annihilates them off the face of the planet. Four stars, this is awesome.

  Enjoying films like this requires a certain mindset I just can't muster up anymore. If you've seen the trailer or read the synopsis you'll probably know already which pitfalls this film will walk into. And it walks into the lot of them.

  The simple 'one location you can't get out of' premise for a thriller should get a lot more respect than Non-Stop gives it. As far as premise driven thrillers go, it messes up exactly how you'd expect it to. The opening act is enjoyable, setting the scene and crystallizing the premise. The second act starts promising, involving you in solving the puzzle but unfortunately you'll start to realize that this film doesn't want you to solve it. It's…

  The cat's out of the bag on the "Liam Neeson, Total Fucking Badass" train so the fact these films are more entertaining than the usual summer affair isn't surprising anyone. Neeson has for the most part worked with highly competent filmmakers, the best of them by far being Jaume Collet-Serra. While Carnahan went for the serious existential vibe with Neeson in The Grey, Collet-Serra is more prickly (and thus more clever) in sliding interesting material into pictures that no one will confuse for anything but B-grade entertainment, quiet films that still move with the pace of any 90s action film, and here relying on tight spaces for exciting physical combat.
