My two previous experiences with the prolific Sion Sono were his contemplative and delicate The Whispering Star, and his batshit crazy Why Don’t You Play In Hell … two films that couldn’t be more polarized in style, yet unified in keen observation of humanity. I absolutely loved both. While the legion of Sion Sono LB friends have been chanting Love Exposure! Love Exposure! Love Exposure! to me like a menacing mob, Lise and I demurred to Norika’s Dinner Table, as it was expiring soon on Mubi, and we didn’t own it.
Wow. What a triumphant trifecta!
