Companion piece to 'Into the Abyss', Herzog's fantastic In Cold Blood-esque examination of the American underclass and a pair of amoral killers.
Originally broadcast on television, this is not quite as accomplished as it's sister documentary, instead taking the form of a series of vignettes of various death row inmates. Their stories are desperate tales of senseless violence and ill-thought out plans.
The story of Joseph Garcia and the Texas Seven gang of bankrobbers struck me as the most interesting but there's enough to warrant a watch here. Strange how polite and respectful all interviewees appeared.
