  It's disarming at first to watch a Tarantino movie that's not driven by a quest for revenge or a big score, that's just about some people living their lives. And once I settled into its groove, I never wanted to leave it behind.

  i haven’t felt this disappointed in a long time. i figured going into it that this would end up being my least favorite tortellini, but i had no idea

  anyone could have directed this. it feels completely inorganic when related to him, except that it’s clearly playing out a nostalgic hollywood fantasy, feet and all. and even if he tried a new route by throwing out his old signature styles, whatever replaced it here is completely unoriginal. a lifeless corpse of a plot, build up that goes nowhere. characters underused and even dialogue underdeveloped. a crescendo at the end that feels lackluster and unearned, leaving me feeling nothing but bitter. the performances are sometimes great, but with nowhere to go.…

  Tarantino is one of my favorite filmmakers and I was happy to see his newest film as soon as I could. I wouldn’t say he’s batting a thousand but his knowledge and love for the art form is clear to the many packed theaters I’ve seen his work in. This film has some lesser tropes I have grown to not like in his films. Pointless narration, meandering plot threads and lots of feet. However, I feel this is Tarantino more true to form, without the gimmicks.

  The gloss of 1969 Hollywood is dazzling, full of pop culture references, movie posters, and fun characters. I appreciated the attention given to authenticity. Having logos for real television stations during the news segments…

  Quentin Tarantino finally made a film about "real people," in every sense of the phrase. i liked it a lot as a wounded portrait of middle-age reflected against the end of the movies' *golden* age (Leo/Pitt are obviously terrific, though it's painful how little screen time they get together).

  but the film is scattered to the point of abstraction, thin scenes are stretched to their breaking points, and the dialogue is leaden in a way that Tarantino's has never been before. this is a lot more interesting than the whiz-bang take on this material QT could make in his sleep (the kind of take suggested by the opening…

  Sometimes we romanticize the wrong people. Killers, thieves, bandits etc etc. QT, never known for passing History class, does something so right, I can’t stop smiling. Instead of painting some sympathetic picture of the Manson Family, he picks Margot Robbie’s Sharon Tate as his rightful muse. The passion in her presence is contagious. She doesn’t have a lot of lines, but this is her movie. Without her character, none of this would be possible.
