Sandra lives in a small apartment in Paris with her eight-year-old daughter. She regularly visits her father, Georg, who suffers from a neurodegenerative disease that undermines his capacities day by day. While she embarks with her family on an obstacle course through nursing homes to install Georg in a safe place, Sandra unexpectedly runs into Clément. Although he is unavailable, a passionate relationship begins.

Everyone you love will eventually disintegrate and die in front of you. We’re all making up life as we go along, and not always successfully. Along the way are nice things, like love and sex and sunny mornings and dad’s book collection.
It’s a well-known fact that all French filmmakers are legally required to make at least one movie about an extramarital affair, but few such auteurs have been better-suited to the task than the great Mia Hansen-Løve, whose raw yet ravishingly urbane character dramas (“Eden,” “Bergman Island,” “Goodbye, First Love”) thrive in the messy spaces where fear and excitement overlap — where loss and possibility are as inseparable from each other as a movie and the screen onto which it’s being projected. In fact, the light yet deeply affecting “One Fine Morning” isn’t even Hansen-Løve’s first crack at her national pastime, as the subject of infidelity has cropped up throughout her work, most notably in 2016’s exquisite “Things to Come.”

probably the only director who loves academics as much as she knows they shouldn’t really exist. great kid!
I find this close to Things to Come era Mia Hansen-Løve — up there as one of her bests, I think, though I never not find her work at least interesting. Without flashback, this film fills in so much of the past and characterizations through tender details — the way two friends’ interaction shifts, the ailing father’s beloved book collection, which contains his soul (more so than his deteriorating corporeal form). Léa Seydoux is the kind of actor who, when she cries, I cry along. Even in a messy, complicated situation that ignites with the rashness of the heart, what follows is a series of actions based on reason and the rationale of the heart. The scenes of Sandra’s (Seydoux) father (Pascal Greggory) reminded me of my grandfather, who had dementia. In his final journal entries, my grandfather noted that it had rained every day. It hadn’t. But maybe inside his head.

mia’s films always seem to have a way of finding me at just the right moment. no one quite gets to me in the way that she does, her films mean the absolute world to me and this one is no exception
quiet films about the small disappointments of everyday life in which people cry a lot are so important to me!!!
Mia Hansen-Løve deserves the world for finally giving Léa Seydoux her empathetic female-driven character study
