Amazon Prime is nothing if not a tremendous dumping ground for any and every TV movie from the 80s and 90s, and the ABC production One of Her Own belongs to that very melodramatic category, ultimately a little more effective than most of its ilk. Directed by Armand Mastroianni (a long way from He Knows You're Alone), this based-on-a-true-story features stars Lori Loughlin as a rookie cop who is raped by one of her coworkers (Greg Evigan), a crime that she eventually reports to her superiors but which instead results in her wrongful termination, the "blue wall" of silence closing ranks to protect the accused rather than the victims - since, of course, there's more than one.

Our favorite criminal mastermind Lori Loughlin, the Livia Soprano of our time, gets to be on the other side of the law here. Turns out, she is quite good in this better-than-average TV movie. While sitcom actresses usually break away from their squeaky-clean image by playing the villain or going down a self-destructive path in a TV movie, she did something different. She chose a darker script that let her stretch as an actress while still playing an essentially even-keeled character.
Lori is pretty terrific at capturing Toni’s pain and confusion. Anyone who doubts Aunt Becky/Future Hallmark Queen could ever handle challenging material should watch her courtroom testimony scene. The irony of knowing she reacted to her own rape in…
