One Trick Pony exists as a reminder for how unexperienced natural performances can go irrevocably wrong.
Plot wise the film is very similar to Inside Llewyn Davis, profiling a middle aged musician who can't seem to catch a break and yet seems to be constantly his own worst enemy when it comes to achieving success. I'm no great admirer of the Coen Bros movie, so it says a lot that this made me appreciate that film more.
Simon's performance is just so passive and dull that you get the feeling his character doesn't care about anything. And then out of nowhere he begins to insult people around him who are lending…
