What starts as a seemingly lighthearted, quirky film devolves into an unnerving dissection of the harm that comes from codependency and unhealthy relationship patterns. Despite how much I hated Joe, by the end, he had me in tears.
Really solid film with some well constructed dialogue and nice integrations of app technology. The highlight is easily Mae Whitman, my favorite component in both the character she’s playing and how she plays the character. She gives impressively layered performance that had me transfixed. Whitman rarely finds herself in leading roles and after seeing her here, I find that to be a great disservice to her talents. She’s unbelievably good.
Operator is a great, hidden indie gem.
