A sometimes interesting, mostly unremarkable horror film, Lluis Quilez's "Out of the Dark" attempts to combine supernatural chills with a tale of industrial terror. Neither element is truly effective, but the film still manages to be watchable. It may not be great, but "Out of the Dark" is not a failure.
The plot of the film revolves around a young family that, after relocating to Colombia, starts to witness strange events tied its new home's history. Ghostly echoes from the past collide with more recent tragedies, creating a yarn of dual horrors.
The story is engagingly developed, but its execution is flat. The cast and filmmakers, though producing sound work, are unable to inject the experience with any style or…
500 years ago the conquistadors came here looking for silver and burnt all the children of this village alive.

I do believe the original title of this film was Horror Movie Clichés: The Movie. Director Lluís Quílez makes his feature film debut here with a solid cast and the beautiful locals of Colombia at his disposal, but unfortunately he's shooting from an uninspired script.
You'll see the jump scares coming a mile away. You'll recognize who has horrible secrets the moment you meet them. You'll feel like the twists are familiar even if you didn't see them coming. I have watched too many truly bad horror films to classify this among them, but the key word for this one…
I'm so glad that I didn't have to pay to see this. I thought that the lead actors would make this movie enjoyable enough but this was such a disappointment. The acting was substandard, the backstory was more like an afterthought, and the end of the movie just makes the movie a lot more stupid than it already was. This was such a waste of time.
Another movie that rolled down the cliche assembly lane. Gee, you think THAT GUY BY CHARACTER ACTOR may have some secrets? Maybe there's some wrongs to right, and everyone will do it with as concerned of a look on their faces as they can muster! *sigh* At least there are some striking visuals that almost squeeze an atmosphere out.
Not really a bad movie on the whole. It is mostly a pile of overused tropes and exhausted storylines. If you breathe some life into them, that's ok. But they ever quite manage to do that here. What you're left with is a film that, almost from the first scene, makes you feel like you've maybe already seen it and aren't quite sure because it was sort of forgettable the firs time you saw it... if you saw it already... which you still aren't sure about.
This's one of those films that had tremendous potential, with a stellar cast, great locations, and a hauntingly sorrowful story. Did they deliver? No, of course not. It turned into another cheap, jump-scare fest that was more boring than anything else.

a letter to future virginia, who will undoubtably see this during a narcism driven reread of all of her past reviews:
DONT WATCH THIS AGAIN! the day will come where you’ll think you should and you SHOULDNT. ITS VERY BLAND and the child is absolutely insufferable. she belongs in a mary poppins movie, not a ghost children movie. this movie offers you nothing, and you don’t want see it again. it’s boring. i promise.
thank you 🙏 goodnight.
