Totally watchable, even if it all hinges on a police department comprised only of the dumbest cops on Earth. Anyway it's easy to forget just how well Denzel plays cornered and desperate, and how effectively he deploys his patented swagger to complement that. Here he's sort of at a Lagrange point between Alonzo Harris and Whip Whitaker. Carl Franklin makes it look pretty easy.
This also had a lot of really amusingly obvious product placement. Tons of scenes open with a shot of something-or-other, like a beer bottle, or there's a part where all the cops are having a Domino's pizza lunch-break, one of them conveniently tilting the box toward the camera. My favorite was Denzel stomping on a guy's phone and repeatedly shouting, "Can you hear me now?"
