  Radiation poisoning heroic bloodshed...

  So that Leonard Nimoy scene from Wrath of Khan... IF you didn't know Search for Spock would exist, it was void of fantasy elements to distract from the body horror, AND that one moment was drawn out to two hours.

  Jong-woo Park's Pandora is a South Korean disaster film dealing with a meltdown at a nuclear power plant, brought about by an earthquake and exacerbated by bureaucracy. Largely told from the perspective of the men who work the facility, and their families fleeing the fallout. A live action Homer Defined....... but with far more blood vomiting.   Ich hab eine Schwäche für Katastrophenfilme. Ich bewerte sie daher oft etwas besser als der Durchschnitt. Vor allem wenn sie so eindringlich sind wie Pandora. Verwunderlich dass dieser aus Südkorea stammende Film so wenig Anerkennung findet. Gerade mal 5000 Einträge hier bei Letterboxd sind nicht gerade viel.

  Pandora schafft es auf eindringliche Weise sehr beklemmende Bilder zu erschaffen. Das Drama spitzt sich rasant zu und die Situation ist aussichtslos. Menschliche Dramen, unfähige Politik und heldenhafter Pathos, nichts kommt hier zu kurz. Das hier ist ein gutes Beispiel dafür das es in diesem Genre nicht immer spektakulär grosse Bilder braucht. Es sind die kleineren Szenen die mir im Kopf geblieben sind. Zum Beispiel die Zustände auf der Krankenstation oder die Schwierigkeiten…

  DuBFaL-Asia-Weeks - 4th Round

  Auch ich mag gerne Filme über Katastrophen Szenarien schauen.

  Da ist es mir auch relativ egal, ob die Szenarien realistisch oder logisch sind. Hauptsache das gezeigte ist spannend, technisch gut umgesetzt und hat eventuell trotz aller unlogik, eine gewisse Ernsthaftigkeit.

  Leider kann ich die Meinungen von
  BennyMzn's Review und dem großen Dubfal Häuptling 😘
  Andy's Review , nicht so ganz teilen 🤷‍♂️.

  Trotz der versuchten Ernsthaftigkeit im hier gezeigten Katastrophen Szenario,eines Super Gaus und der damit einhergehenden Kritik an Atomkraftwerken, hat mich mal wieder das Overacting, genauso wie es auch schon im Südkoreanischen Film "The Flu" der Fall war, immens gestört.

  DuBFaL-Asia-Weeks auf LB - 1st Round - Film-Nr. 8 - Pandora

  Wow. Im Finale war Pandora ein richtiges Brett. Wenn einzelne Akteure vorher durch Overacting nicht negativ aufgefallen wären und somit den Film fast schon zerstört hätten, wäre die Bewertung sicherlich noch höher ausgefallen.

  Auf jeden Fall haben die Asiaten, insbesondere hier die Südkoreaner, eindrucksvoll bewiesen, dass sie auch Katastrophenfilme können. Wirklich besser als so mancher US-Katastrophen-Blockbuster.

  Pandora handelt von einem Unfall in einem Atomkraftwerk. Als "Vorbild" diente die Nuklarkatastrophe von Fukushima im Jahre 2011.

  Im Mittelpunkt der Handlung steht Jae-hyoek mit seiner Familie und Freunden. Jae-hyoek ist unglücklich und fühlt sich als Versager. Auch arbeitet er äußerst ungern im nahegelegenen Atomkraftwerk, da schon einige Familienmitglieder bei einem Zwischenfall ihr…

  I started watching this movie because the concept reminded me of Shin Godzilla -- bureaucracy in the face of disaster leading to more disaster. I'm sure this got lower rating because of the slow opening, but for me that was what really delivered the goods.

  The end gets a tad dramatic -- this is ultimately an emotional gut punch of a movie -- and drags a bit in its delivery. But the lead up, the performances and even the grotesque special effects (relating mostly to explosive death by radiation poisoning) are all A+ and deserve a viewing.

  Una película de desastres nucleares coreana que está muy bien. Pero mira voy a destacar primero que los políticos son unos inútiles aquí ,allá y dónde se pongan, que la señora mayor es absolutamente insoportable y que la mascarilla la llevan súper mal aunque acabe de explotar una central nuclear. Creía que lo de la mascarilla con la nariz fuera era solo cosa de Albacete.

  the pacing was rough at times but man, korean cinema makes the disaster film genre tolerable. the last half hour was great but getting through the first hour felt like a bit of a chore.

  Essentially Chernobyl with a whole lot more drama, unnecessarily drawn out and 2 hours of every character shouting at each other.

  To feed my wife's current hunger for Korean disaster films, we gave Pandora (2016) a shot. Perhaps not the best example of the disaster genre, but I got into the Nuclear danger provided here. A little too much focus on the running family, but otherwise I quite enjoyed myself with this one.
