"[there's] always another day, right?"
a soft, relaxing ode to the brave act of getting out of bed every morning, and continuing to find your own avenues of creativity, love and support in a world that doesn’t hand you any. practically radical in its insistence on a simple, quiet, warm existence where everyone in the american working class is striving, creating and loving despite everything else trying to confine them. your first and last piece of art is the life you live—monumental, highly doubt there will be a better movie this year.
TIFF programmer: "Can you talk about some of the philosophy behind this movie?"
Jim Jarmusch: "No."

Second viewing, no change. Still love everything except the one big, heavily foreshadowed plot element. Three small moments/observations that stood out this time (As Seen On Twitter™):
1. Paterson puts his clothes out every night, presumably so that he doesn't wake Laura in the morning opening drawers. Nothing is ever made of this; escaped me completely the first time. But it says so much about him.
2. Love the loud, mysterious clacking sound in the bar, which turns out to be a '90s-style jukebox with CDs in giant platters (with artwork attached) that you flip to browse.
3. OMFG the look of proud anticipation on the little girl's face just before she reads Paterson the final line of her poem ("Most people call it rain"). The essence of creativity in a single facial expression.
If I were to tell you of a movie, in which it simply tells the story of a week in the life of an average man, his wife, dog, and daily routines, I can imagine you'd be hard-pressed drumming up any enthusiasm to invest the time it would take to check this one out, and that I can totally understand. No doubt, it sounds boring as fuck right?
Holy shit, it's not. Paterson is perhaps one of the most charming little films I've seen which doesn't feature a talking bear. From the beginning, I was engaged, invested, and by the end, I didn't want it to be over. There's no real three-act structure here. There's barely even an over-arching narrative.…
Was expecting something but it didn't and thats how the movie went like a 🍯 honey
Live in a poetry seems to be a good perspective to look at the world, and Paterson realized it to you.

No wonder Adam Drivir was chosen for Marriage Story, his appearance was stunning!
I've gone through my entire life hating poetry. It took a bus driver talking about his favourite brand of matches for me to actually appreciate the art-form.
I'm just a sucker for movies about normal people living their normal day-to-day lives
Also I'm a sucker for Adam Driver so...
