at one point percy called annabeth “annie” and I almost started crying so that’s where i am. on this Monday night. hearts are full tonight lads
I hated the first Percy Jackson movie so much that I’d tried to avoid the sequel for as long as possible. Unfortunately, with it finally appearing on Sky Premiere I had to bite the bullet and endure yet another derivative family adventure film. Sadly it doesn’t seem as if they’ve learnt from the mistakes of the first film as once again they’ve delivered a film devoid of personality and excitement.
Based on Rick Riordan’s series of novels (which I’m reliably informed by my nephew are much better than the films), the stories blend Greek mythology with the modern world as the son of Poseidon (Percy) and his annoying band of buddies go on familiar adventures from Greek legend. This time…
Top 10 things I learned from this movie:
* Dionysus is a glory-hogging douche
* Not all Cyclopes are bad news
* Being eaten by a sea monster doesn’t kill you
* Being eaten by a god doesn’t kill you either
* Nor does getting an arrow through the chest, dropping 100 feet into a river
* CGI hasn’t evolved much in the past ten years
* Stygian witches drive old New York taxi cabs
* Being blandest of the bland gets you a starring role
* Harry Potter sits safely on the throne as the best non-Tolkien fantasy franchise
* Teen adventures, however lame, still make entertaining guilty pleasures
"Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters," Thor Freudenthal's follow-up to "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief," almost fully repeats its predecessor's pattern of interesting concept, light-weight story, and family-friendly Greek-myth-inspired fantasy. The second film may not take the series anywhere new, but it still provides solid, sometimes smart adventure.
The narrative, here, sends young Percy Jackson, now hesitantly embracing his status as a demigod, on a quest to find the golden fleece. Complications, such as prophecies, teen enemies, and a cyclops half-brother, ensue, throwing Percy and his gang into recognizable hero quest shenanigans. There is a favorable emotional undercurrent to the story, but, at times, it seems to struggle between find its own way and borrowing from other kid-lit sagas.…
Te amo, Percy. Pero que las adaptaciones te hagan parecer como si tuvieras 25 años me duele mucho.
A botched movie taking bits and pieces from the entire Olympian series, conveniently morphing some of the elements and then projecting it using the glorious cgi. And at this point I haven't even read the books.
Talk about a letdown... I now understand why this series died a sudden, terrible death before it could be finished. I am sad. Guess I'll read the books to find out what happens next.
como fã incondicional dos livros do percy jackson, qualquer compêndio fidedigno me agrada. não foi diferente.
a monstrosity. logan Lerman forgot how to act for just one movie? maybe the writing was just too far gone to save. annabeth is suddenly a dumb blonde?? Too much wrongness in 106 minutes
