Rayquaza slaps. Sadly this movie does not.
Pokemon Ranked
Animated Movies Ranked
5.5/10
I'm beginning to sense a familiar pattern with Pokemon movies:
- there are two legendary Pokemon duking it out
- a Pokemon hates humanity through a huge misunderstanding based on the events of one evil individual
- Ash performs a great feat of courage
- Pokemon and humanity are proven not to be evil and both can live together in harmony
- everything in between is just Team Rocket pissing about and Pokemon screaming their names, with an inevitable "come out everybody" scene with some K-pop crap playing that describes an overarching moral about achieving your goals, through Pokemon. Oh, and Brock flirts to death.
You know what, I gotta admit, I kinda liked this one. Like, its still just as dumb as every other Pokemon movie, but there were some good elements to it that I think deserve some recognition. I liked the futuristic city the film takes place in. I really like how the first part of the story is this calm, slice-of-life narrative, but then the story plays out like a zombie apocalypse film. That was just really unique, and helped to break up the tedium. The side characters aren’t as insufferable as they usually are, and the 3D models they try to sneak in look better than ever. Pokemon: Destiny Deoxys, overall, is just some dumb fun. It’s not something I’d actively encourage you to watch, but since I am watching a bunch of these Pokemon films for no reason, this one surprised me by actually being enjoyable.
This one feels cinematic in a way that is similar to the 3rd movie. The Deoxys vs Rayquaza was really well animated with nice choreography. Unlike some of the previous movies I have seen of Pokémon, they use the abilities of the Pokémon in the set pieces to create some nice shot compositions that captures the scales and uniqueness of Pokémon. Ash playing a big brother role to a new character who is pretty derivative from one off from the shows but still still has some charm. The villains twist was painful since they were trying to give too much unneeded mystery to it all. Before we get to some cool world building in this contradictory cockfighting world, there was too many secondary characters and Pokémon battles in the first act that almost made this painful to power through. Thankfully, it got epically stupid but a fun time. Fun nostalgic trip.
The magnum opus of the Pokemon filmography. This film is the wet dream of pretentious filmmakers everywhere, as they know they can never create such a masterpiece. Despite being a film directed towards children, something I vehemently protest, the story can reflect and serve as a robust analogy for U.S. foreign policy in the middle east. Deoxys, a space pokemon, is a metaphor for Islamic extremism as he blows shit up for stupid reasons and hates jews. He comes down from space and runs train on a utopian city with a band of clones leaving dumbass Ash and friends hopeless. Rayquaza, the sky Pokemon comes down, and fucking kills both Deoxys and his performance. Rayquaza obliterates the entire city and…
Satoshi/Ash and friends end up at some dystopian Big Brother City where all is monitored and controlled. Also, some guy who is do out of her league hits on Haruka/May while there. Anyways, Satoshi/Ash helps some pansy-core kid whose scarred of Pokemon because of a bad experience when he was young and also is pansy-core. Then alien Pokemon attack the city. Satoshi/Ash goes into action hero mode as he must and learns the Big Brother tech of the city is far more dangerous than the aliens.
This is a fun if a little overlong entry. Has maybe the best or at least most impressive animation of the series this far at least.
♦️1st Viewing♦️
This movie is easily the most sci-fi Pokémon movie out there which is probably why I enjoyed a good amount of it. Also Rayquaza is one of the most bad ass looking Pokémon out there and I could watch it fight with Deoxys all day long.
The first half of this movie is FANTASTIC. An incredible opening scene, great world building, setting up excellent and interesting character relationships along with a monster movie kind of vibe. The second half was fine, but it just kind of trudges along, doing the bare minimum with everything set up in the first half. Still, a really good movie.
kinda lost interest around the end but way different vibe to the rest of the movies.
the ending? they’re gays. (if you’ve seen it you’ll know what i mean)
also the amount of times the word daddy is said in this film is Uncomfortable
Citizen Kane wishes it had what Pokemon Movie 7 - Destiny Deoxys: The Sky Splitting Visitor has.
Five fucking stars baby!
The animation is underwhelming and the voice acting is just okay and serviceable. The writing is too childish, but the comedy is cute, functional and funny. The characters personalities are formulaic, but the emotions are surprisingly engaging. The action scenes are entertaining, but the environment could have been more creative.
The atmosphere is very sensitive and the editing is very odd. The costumes and the make-up are tolerable, but the music is extremely distracting. All of the scenes are surprisingly well linked with each other. The story is really thin, but it still has it's moments.
As a whole Pokemon the Movie: Destiny Deoxys is remarkably clumsy film. And that is the main reason why i can't say that it's a good movie. It's a bad film and i can't recommend it. This Pokemon journey just doesn't work. Go and pick another one.
2.5 stars for Rayquaza looking badass. Otherwise, all the main characters are basically stuck underground doing little to nothing for the entire film. Not nearly as compelling or fun as I remember. Nowhere even close to the emotional level of the original Pokémon films.
lacks all the charm of the previous entries. felt long as hell.
pokemon legend battles do be fun tho
Goober shit throughout, stupid but also one of the best Pokémon movies. Max was just havin epic anime moments the whole time, and Tory’s haircut looked like a penis.

Cool Pokémon fights, two great legendaries from
the Hoenn region in my opinion! Those being Deoxys and Rayquaza! Good animation and good voice acting! It is getting a bit formulaic and predictable at this point, but I want to keep pushing through and watch all of them eventually!
