The inevitable edge-lord variation on John Wick. Men who DM porn stars at 3 AM and leave all-caps comments on female journalists tweets are about to have a new favorite movie.
listen i didn't expect much from a film that starts with johnny knoville dying mid blowjob but lighting a full frontal scene so low i can't even see mads' dick? some crimes can't be forgiven
- Mads Mikkelsen always amazes me again with his character.
- Overlong.
- John Wick be like. But this is bad as shit.
- I don't really like the storyline.
- The Cinematography isn't too bad.
- Dark Comedy elements.
- Blood.
- Killers.
- Dullish.
- Vanessa Hudgens???... Oh well....
- Mads Mikkelsen.
- Mads Mikkelsen.
- And always Mads Mikkelsen. The savior of this film.
so intentionally repulsive and "edgy" in the most artless ways you honestly can't help but pity it. it's just Wanted with the saturation turned up (and that movie was immediately dated by its ghastly style and juvenile tone upon release over a decade ago), featuring writing that at best resembles a compilation of all the worst Hitman cutscenes. the worst part is that it's clear it's trying so hard to shock and absolutely none of it registers. i wasn't even mad about it tbh, was mostly just bored, like ouuu hyper-sexualized women and cartoonishly cruel, fetishistic violence, very cool/clever/ironic etc, but then it tried to do the hallway scene from Oldboy and laid bare what it thinks it is and y i k e s. mads innocent tho.
Someone on Facebook said this looked like a great-value version of John Wick and they just replaced his dog with Vanessa Hudgens. That's it that's my review.
This is dope. You guys are just mean!!
The cinematography is gorgeous. Everything from the lighting, costumes, set pieces, and action sequences are incredibly stylish. And while the narrative is gruesome, it also manages to provide hilarity. On the surface, it may seem like every other action film, but the narrative digs deeper into the characters' complexities and punches harder in an emotional finale of revelations.
It has flaws for sure, but I had a blast.
Made it only 50 minutes in before I had to dip. The most disgusting, exploitative, misogynistic, rapey, sickly, crass, abhorrent, annoying, self-satisfied, evil, moronic, bred-for-12-year-olds-who-wanna-watch-some-dirty-stuff-under-mom's-nose bullshit that I've seen in a very, very, very long time.
