Holy fucking shit.
That was in brief my reaction after viewing Andrzej Zulawski's most famous horror film, an unforgettable, surreal, nightmarish, astonishingly weird and disgustingly horrid masterpiece that will either be perceived as astonishing and perfect or complete trash. I belong to the former category.
With its echoes of The Shining from the previous year, and its allusions to prior horror classics such as Don't Look Now and The Exorcist, Possession has a lot in common with the horror films of its time, but is also driven by one fundamental detail that makes a hell of a difference: it is COMPLETELY FUCKING BATSHIT CRAZY.
