Film #25 in MY YEAR OF MUBI
Talk about your awkward family dinner parties. This is the CHAMPION of all of them!!! ...in terms of awkwardness.
This movie is beautifully shot. Some truly gorgeous camerawork in several scenes (the rain scene in particular is awesome)! This is probably the strongest part of the film. Well... along with Thomas Blanchard's performance, which is - dang - really uncomfortably good.
The BIGGEST ISSUE I have with the movie, however, is how terribly it treats the subject of mental health disorders. It's really irresponsible in somewhat trying to glorify characters that are AWFUL HUMAN BEINGS. No joke.
