Set in England in the early 19th century, Pride and Prejudice tells the story of Mr and Mrs Bennet's five unmarried daughters after the rich and eligible Mr Bingley and his status-conscious friend, Mr Darcy, have moved into their neighbourhood. While Bingley takes an immediate liking to the eldest Bennet daughter, Jane, Darcy has difficulty adapting to local society and repeatedly clashes with the second-eldest Bennet daughter, Elizabeth.

the writers on this series: lets make it religiously close to the original source material. so they literally feel like they're reading the book as they watch it. apart from one thing. colin firth is going to jump into a lake and emerge, dripping wet, with his undershirt clinging to him, and walk back to pemberley. that's the only thing that needs to be added. it has little to no plot relevance but it'll be hot as fuck

i love how this is almost identical to the book but then it’s just like: colin firth in the bath, colin firth fencing, colin firth emerging from the lake in a white shirt
My friend and I once watched this and counted how many times colin firth stares longingly 1) out a window 2) into a fireplace 3) into the distance. The final tally was around 60.

The scene, exactly halfway through, when Jennifer Ehle as Elizabeth rejects Colin Firth's Mr. Darcy is probably the best single scene of 1995. Both actors capture all the levels Austen is working on, more so than any other adaptation I've seen. Firth's performance is justly iconic, not so much for his brooding sexuality, though there is a bit of that, this isn't Olivier in Withering Heights. It's the conflicted, awkward nature of the performance, his Darcy is a man who goes through life angry and sad at the same time, always confused, never at ease in any social setting. There is absolutely nothing like growing up with both the mini-series and the 2005 version, because I'm CURSED with the knowledge that the 2005 version is the better piece of art, is MUCH sexier, and has the best Mr. Darcy, but that the mini-series is definitely the superior adaptation and matches the spirit of the book so much better, and also that Jennifer Ehle is the best Elizabeth (don't shoot Keira stans, I'm one of you)
