MONSTER SQUAD plus Power Rangers, with lovely practical creature and gore FX, but in the service of something almost as diabolically unfunny and self-satisfied as Comedy Central-era Futurama, although it might have worked better at a lean 22 minutes. And the kids are annoying-precocious and not uncomfortable-precocious.
A fun movie and an opportune reminder that I have to renew my subscription to Hunky Boys Magazine.
This movie was cute. My friend showed it to me and I didn’t know what to expect but she just said “what if the power rangers villains were the main characters” and that’s accurate. Actually made me laugh a few times. Not a great movie but a fun B list flick

I usually try to avoid horror movies with kids in them but this was fun! The gore was also excellent! Becoming a cult classic you can check it out on Shudder!
As the father of an extremely bossy daughter, this played like a chilling glimpse into my future. If she ever gets her hands on a mystical gem that can be used to control an interplanetary conqueror with powers beyond mortal comprehension, I am totally fucked. Bonus points for naming this terrifying and impossibly bloody monster “PG.”
What if a kid basically had a pet Pinhead, but — unlike the old suburban fantasy films this movie quotes — the family that adopts the monster is deeply dysfunctional and amoral (in the most lovable way)?
My friend Stuart has a small part in this movie, and I take great comfort knowing that the universe somehow saw fit to let him to be in the most Stuart movie ever.

Als hätte jemand während einer Folge „Power Rangers“ beschlossen: Da muss noch Blut und Eingeweide rein. Hochgradig imaginative, handgemachte Kostüme und Creature Effects, grottenschlechtes Overacting nah an der Schmerzgrenze, furchtbare Dialoge, einige wirklich komische Gags und eine schwer sympathische „Alles egal“-Attitüde bilden das Fundament einer gar nicht mal so unwertigen Trashgranate, bei der ich nie ganz wusste, ob ich das jetzt ganz fantastisch oder furchtbar doof finden soll. Hier hatte jemand sichtlich Bock einfach mal Quatsch mit Kostümen zu inszenieren - und weil dieser Jemand mit „The Void“ schon bewiesen hat, dass er weiß, wie man effektiv inszeniert, geht das optisch und in Punkto Timing auch klar.
Protipp: Vorher einfach drei bis neunzehn Bier zischen dann wird das schon..!
