No, I've not seen the original film, so I can't compare the two. I see that a lot of people consider Nicolas Winding Refn's 1996 Dutch language film (and it's sequels) superior. I may check them out one day, but until then...
This is the 2012 English language remake by Luis Prieto. It tells the story of a pusher who has a couple of big money deals go horribly wrong, leaving him in debt to a ruthless drug lord.
One can make the argument that this is a fine example of style over substance ... but I really enjoyed the way the story was told! I thought the performances were solid, and I liked the contemporary directorial style. The soundtrack by Orbital was huge plus (I'm a fan)!
There's nothing Oscar worthy here but it's not as bad as some people say. It's an entertaining 90 minutes.
