Pusher 2, Pusher 2, With Blood On My Hands, Пушер 2
Well congratulations Mads, this time I think you finally KILLED ME
He played such a degenerate simpleton in this and I was like this "🤗" the whole time. I am a complete slut for this man I thought I had limits but I do not, what's next he kills the nifflers and I'll cheer while yelling "yes king massacre those little shits"? Every time he held that baby my eggs multiplied
Pusher II profoundly expounds upon the idea of finding humanity through ignoring morality. Are we still human if we are essentially unaware of the concept of good and evil? Through Madds Mikelssons's deeply human portrayal of Tonny, Refn presents the possibility that morals and humanity, while they make a great pair, are not inherntly linked. He would later take it a step further in Bronson by giving voice to the the dangerously immoral, raising the question of why should The Moral be allowed to reign over The Immoral and condemn their immorality. It's profoundly terrifying on a psychological level, and the guerilla style cinematography places us right there in the territory of The Immoral. There's no other way to say…
Noir-November Challenge! Movie #25
2nd film of Nicolas Winding Refn's Pusher Trilogy!
Nordic Neo Noir piece starring one of my favorite actors Mads Mikkelsen! Tonny (Mads Mikkelsen) is the Rodney Dangerfield of the Copenhagen underworld cuz he gets no respect! Ironically he has the word tattooed on the back of his baldhead which tells you just how desperate he is to attain it! He's the quintessential posterboy for losers so he's basically got a snowball's chance in hell of ever getting it!
Refn fleshes out the character Tonny in ways you almost sympathize with him but Refn smacks you in the face with a glaring look at the monster lying just below the surface! And when it rears its ugly…
Implied menace, laced with uncertainty and instability. Crippling vulnerability, derived from his inability to earn the respect his world necessitates. This is the duality of Tonny, the central focus of NWR's sequel Pusher II: With Blood on My Hands. Refn explores the lengths Tonny will go to for approval from his father, to carve out his place in the drug-pushing world. To earn the respect he desperately desires rather than ask for it. The journey we are taken on is gritty and realistic in the most filthy way, almost enthusiastically embracing things like compulsive reliance on narcotics, prostitution, murder and theft like hallmarks to a normal life; this corrupt and corrosive world Tonny has chosen for himself. The film equally…
An incredible follow up to Pusher 1 featuring one of my favorite actors as the main protagonist Tonny (Mads Mikkelsen)!
The chickens have come home to roost and it's time for Tonny to decide whether to shit or get off the pot! But when you're born and bred in a shit storm it's nearly impossible to navigate your way beyond its clutches before it sucks you back into its vortex of pain all over again!
Mads Mikkelsen's performance of this gutless, spineless, poor excuse for a human being was so spot on even I despised this character! Mads genuine portrayal of a low life kept my sympathies in check even when we became privy to some of the reasons why he's the boil on the ass of society!
I highly recommend watching the Pusher Trilogy back to back to enhance your viewing experience!
An emotional gut-punch. Such a powerful character study and heavily stylized slice of gritty social realism. Mads Mikkelsen's performance is beyond words, one for the ages. Its just perfect when the camera lingers on his face, when he deals with inner conflicts. You feel a sort of catharsis by the end. I think this beats Drive as my favorite Refn film, and I fucking love Drive.
Now that I saw Tonny go from a extremely racist and sexist motherfucker to a still extremely racist and sexist motherfucker that it's a little more justified in his sexism because the mother is admittedly a very shitty parent, I got a little more respect for him :)
This might be one of the twenty most depressing films I’ve ever seen. Mads Mikkelsen’s character Tony is a 100% Grade A loser, but there is so much cruelty bombarding him from every angle... it’s almost impossible not to feel for him on some level. Mikkelsen’s amazing performance also goes a long way towards humanizing Tonny, and the frenetic, in-Mads-face cinematography makes every gut punch land that much harder. Did I mention he’s really stupid? Talk about a stacked deck.
Nicolas Winding Refn did a great job of getting in my head. Am I on some level rooting for an awful person because every person in his life treats him with such disdain and disrespect? There’s a 1.5% chance I just watched a happy ending, but I think I’m being overly optimistic.
I hope there’s some immorality quadratic formula that can help me figure this out, cause this film kinda spun me out.
Tonny has a tattoo on the back of his head that says RESPECT. Unfortunately, Tonny is the kind of man who asks for it - instead of forcing people to respect him. In the world of crime, in which he dwells, this isn't the best method of earning respect. Is Tonny actually a loser, or is he playing by other's unfair rules?
I love how ambiguous they made this film. It takes a character that you're not exactly sure you should like (Tonny), and focuses in on him so intimately that you just have to feel something about him and the situations he finds himself in. It took me all the way to the end until that floodgate of tension…
Pusher was the debut film of director Nicolas Winding Refn, released back in 1996. While it’s a bit rough for sure, it was a solid movie, and hinted at the potential he would deliver on with his later movies. 8 years later, he returned to the world he created in his first movie, and directed two follows up movies, being each of them being lead by supporting characters from the first movie. The second Pusher film titled With Blood on His Hands, is a noticeable improvement over the first movie in every way, and is quite great.
Like with the first movie, Pusher 2 feels grounded, from the dialogue, to the world itself. The classic gangster genre cliches seen in…
Slår hardere enn énern. Alt er litt mer polert, uten å ofre grungen. Også er Mads Mikkelsen gøyere å følge enn han andre.
this time they are not pushing drugs, but rather the limits of a cokehead's father complex
I responded more to the aimlessness and constant, throbbing unhappiness here than the high stakes tension of the first Pusher. A little bit of graininess serves Refn well.
I feel for Tonny, I really do. That might be why I liked this so much besides the fact Mads is in it. Or it was the depressing relationship he has with his father. But you know.. dont make me say it... (daddy issues)
Seeing him go from a coke addict to a coke addict with a baby is weird. He really does make an effort at being a father which i find super sweet.
My head is so empty but I loved the movie.
Pusher II is not as great as I remembered it being back than. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bad far from it. Mads Mikkelsen performance is definitely one of the highlights. He really emphasized how weak and distressed the character really is. The other characters around Tonny are hypocritical, abusive and in general toxic. It works at first but got old. I found most of the characters in this film to be pretty one dimensional. The whole debt plot at the beginning felt pointless. It’s almost nonexistent in the overall narrative. The lighting is nice and colorful although over exposed.
The film overall is eerie, upsetting in a good way but script is pretty lacking. 7/10
Yarım bıraktığıma pişman oldum. 1. filmden daha çok sevdim mads mikkelsen in oynadığı tonny karakteri daha ilginç gelmişti ilk filmde de bunun etkisi de olabilir.
