Having recently watched Raffles, the 1939 take on the character, I find that my misgivings about that film are very much the same here for one very good reason.
This is exactly the same film.
There are a few minor differences, he is seen early on stealing a bracelet which he gifts to his fiance while in the remake he's stealing stuff and passing it on to those in need so they can collect the reward. So in that sense this version portrays him as less of a Robin Hood type, although again the main plot is driven by Raffles trying to bail out his chum Bunny the only way he know how, but nicking stuff.
