Ahh we are in B-movie heaven here. An all-star cast of genre film favorites, headed by the always redoubtable Danny Trejo. A reincarnated killer with supernatural powers and a supposedly righteous vendetta. A pretty blonde who isn't as innocent as she seems. A drug deal gone bad. A crazy hotel clerk. And last but not least... one kill after another. Oh yes, these are the ingredients of that we see such films like "Reaper" for, and fortunately, it delivers! The film is what it promises to be, and maybe a bit better thanks to a higher-grade cast than one usually finds in such hotel horror films. One must add that it also has something of an '80's feel to it. A shame that this film didn't come out in that era... it's perfect for a late night Saturday trip to the local drive in theatre. Fun stuff
This is one of Danny Trejo's all time best performances -- he gets to play both a badass and a sympathetic, fleshed out character who doesn't just pop up in a cameo but actually carries the film along able talent. The titular monster is a bit of a let down, but Trejo saves the day. For Trejo fans, this is a must see.
An order of Trejo with a machete plus Vinnie with a bowie knife, a lecherous Busey in a narrative revolving around a super hot but shifty blonde and her encounters with the above mentioned plus a cool as Fonzie drug dealer, a dangerous cop, a religious nut Bates-style hotel inn keeper, and, of course, the titular slayer, and you have one of the most enjoyable, campy, and downright fun slasher films in some time.
The rare horror thriller where the characters and performances are the reason to watch, not the titular killer who is a bit of a let down. Rather, Trejo, Beesley, Jurdi, Busey, and a scene stealing Justin Henry are the reasons this slasher pic works.
This isn't that great but with Danny Trejo it makes it much better! He's a bad ass in every movie he does.
Danny Trejo drowns a ghost. To death.
Like he shoves a ghost's head under water until it stops kicking.
REAPER seemed like perfect near midnight Saturday night fodder with Vinnie Jones, Jake Busey and Danny Trejo all involved and a supernatural slasher element in focus. Sadly though this was not BLOOD BEAT crazy and more of a slow winding road that didn't cure my itch for what it teased. Sure it is great to see Trejo wondering around a hotel with a machete and a titular character that I wanted more of but my eyes were too heavy to give a damn.
Definite cult classic status awaits this incredibly fun and light slasher which has all the elements of a late night drive in theatre, midnight madness extravaganza!
One of the dullest pieces of shit I've ever sat through. Ostensibly a reimagining of Wes Craven's Shocker, what you have is an incredibly poorly scripted crime story that has nothing to do with the electric reaper of the cover for about an 1:20 of the 1:27 runtime. Only things of note here are the appearances of Jake Busey, Vinnie Jones, and Danny Trjejo. If Eric Roberts had been in this it would have surely been a sign that the four horseman of the apocalypse were prepared to bring about the end times.
I enjoy grandpa drug dealer Danny Trejo. Electric reaper, weird cult stuff, and really nice hotel.
It’s okay if you like watching Jake Busey drive a black Buick LaSabre while sweating profusely.
