A moody and stylish Se7en inspired thriller directed by Russell Mulcahy (Highlander 1 & 2 and Razorback). It really surprised me how gory this got in terms of kills/deaths. Pretty awesome! Lambert isn't the best actor, but he was decent. Robert Joy was the real star though.
Fun times watching this with Michelle.
Oh, before I forget..
Happy New Year, dear letterboxd friends! 🥳 Here’s to a year of good health, lots of love, and many wonderful movies. 🥂
Resurrection is an absolutely shameless Seven rip off - not only stealing the central concept from David Fincher's crime film, but even taking the plot structure and the composition of certain scenes! Still, if you're going to rip off a film about a serial killer taking trophies for some kind of bigger project, you may as well rip off the best one. Here we've got Christopher Lambert investigating a bunch of murders where the victims all have a body part missing. It's mostly a police procedural, with Lambert following the clues laid and trying to get ahead of the killer. The whole thing really is entirely ridiculous - especially the reason why the killer is doing it. "He's insane!" is…
Hilariously misguided Se7en ripoff (should have been called Re5u44ection) that starts out near-unwatchable but slowly begins to deliver thanks to OTT gore and Christopher Lambert's total lack of self-awareness. Everything about this is ill-conceived - it's a humourless dirge that is unintentionally comical in its sincerity and desperate desire to shock/tap into the MIND OF A KILLER. That anybody thought it would be taken seriously is outrageous - but Russell Mulcahy is a certified lunatic so I guess I can't be too surprised.
100% recommended. Also David Cronenberg plays a PRIEST
for he is coming
jeez Se7en really left a permanent impression on the 90s crime scene didn’t it? like so many crime procedures tried to follow sloppily behind it to recreate the success to sad effects. but this one is kinda decent even tho it tries so hard. i actually saw this years ago and really liked it. i mean now i can tell how it follows the tropes hard and of course you have to have that crazy villain with a religious message, it’s very embarrassing at this point
even though this film doesn’t match the psychological nerve of its greater specimen it gets some stuff right. by being filthier, grimier and smellier. so in presenting it really leaves a nasty impression with so-so ok gore scenes but in plot-wise you’ve seen this all before. and if it was any more edgier it’d fit right in with the spoiled rejects wearing a choker and listening to Black Veil Brides
Not actually any good but a real hoot anyway, a completely shameless, sometimes even scene-specific ripoff of SEVEN.
Rain soaked, Chicago set cash-in on Se7en with Christopher Lambert and Leland Orser (who played the dude who fucked a woman to death with a knife in Se7en) as ragtag buddy cops pursuing a serial killer with a penchant for dismembering people in increasingly gruesome ways and a misplaced affection for religion. Re-teams Lambert with Highlander director Russell Mulcahy and co-written by Lambert and the writer of Body of Evidence, which lets on to how ridiculous this eventually gets. It's pretty gory (even if toned down by the MPAA), Lambert spends a lot of time solving math problems and David Cronenberg plays a priest.
at one point Lambert is trying to solve a clue involving Roman numerals and he is writing down "1 + 1 = 2"
A SE7EN ripoff that winds up being even sicker than SE7EN. Full of narrative idiocy, and asking Christopher Lambert to express complex emotions is never a good idea. But trust Russell Mulcahy to push such retrograde material to its glorious extremes. Good movie to end 2020 on and an even better one to start 2021 with.
Happy Easter from Christopher Lambert and Russell Mulcahy!
I had (dumb) high hopes for this, who better to make a low-budget Se7en knockoff than David Fincher's fellow music video alum Mulcahy? But even though he gives this an impressively blown-out visual style loaded with rain, grain, and shadow it shows depressingly few of his charms, listless mystery and action, some grating schmacting from Lambert (who should have known to keep his cool by this point in his career!) and Barbara Tyson, and unconscionably low levels of fun.
