REVENGE takes the misogyny associated with rape-revenge exploitation films and flips it on its head, then drags it through a desert full of broken glass. the level of visceral disgust this woman feels with her abusers is strangely cathartic, and the She Did That! moments are even more so. new french extremity is back and better than ever, baby!
Constantly uses the codes of masculinity and the tools of its gaze against multiple subgenres as well as its protagonist's assaulters. This isn't merely retribution for a rape but for decades of cinematic objectification. A terrific piece of modern exploitation.

I had seen bits of this film being advertised on Shutter but I could never bring myself to watch it until recently, and wow was I caught off guard. Watching this in HD proved to be even more beneficial due to the stunning visuals brought forth by the rolling landscapes.

The title is misleading. This is not revenge, and the film is certainly not feminist. It is just another conventional genre film using rape as a backdrop.

There is no satisfaction to be had, because there is no (cinematic) revenge. Within the narrative Jen is raped and left for dead, but she doesn't come back for a "manhunt" which the misleading plot summary says. It's more of a fight to the death, where the men who already raped and tried to kill her get to hurt her even more (and for the most part, it's the men who hunt her). French female directors are the fucking shit! First we had Raw last year and now we have Revenge this year.
Revenge is a stylish, bloody, brutal genre film. It's like Rambo and Mad Max meets Kill Bill. Real talk, this is one of the bloodiest films I've ever seen. As tough as this film was to watch, I loved every second of this film. The director takes sooooo many risks with this film, but damn near everything totally pays off. The desert landscape, color palette, and score work so perfectly for Revenge.

At the beginning of the film Jen was the epitome of what rape culture claims to be a woman whom is either asking/wanting to be raped and or deserves to be raped for leading men on! Coralie Fargeat puts those bogus claims to bed in short order! Anyone witnessing the film cannot in their right mind justify what these criminals did to her!
