When the movie started, I really wanted this to be a two-hour Janelle Monáe music video with silent animated birds. No will.i.am, no one else singing or speaking. It would be better than the actual movie, which involves groups of characters from the first movie, and some new villain characters, searching for rare blue birds. It’s essentially Around the World in 80 Days with Birds and Other Animals, with the thinnest of plots, only held together by mostly bland musical sequences.
That’s it. That’s my review. I had more, but I thought this would cover it. Except I somehow missed that in the first movie (and this one) Nigel is voiced by Jemaine Clement. But an Obvious Villain Bird is still annoying to watch in this movie, even if he’s voiced by Clement. Janelle Monáe’s non-singing cameo is way too short.
Also, I think I hate will.i.am as a voice actor. Okay, I’m done.
